Five sisters growing up in Turkey find themselves on indefinite house arrest when their uber-conservative grandmother and uncle suspect them of canoodling with the local boys. Before long, the house starts looking more and more like a prison, the older girls start getting set up with arranged marriages, and the younger girls start plotting their escape.
[Rated PG-13]
One of the best, maybe even the best, feminist coming-of-agers I’ve ever had the good pleasure of seeing. Great performances from all five sisters, characters that feel real and likeable as hell, a script that’s outstanding from the start and only gets better. Deserves to be seen regardless of age of gender. Cannot recommend it enough. Good god, could the world use more movies like this.
It’s got a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
