A hip teacher with a drug habit forms a unique bond with a student from a broken home. The more they get to know each other, the more they prop each other up, but as his habit starts to spiral and her situation goes south, their unlikely friendship gets put to the test.
The big selling point here is that it’s Ryan Gosling’s breakout role and, good lord, did it deservedly put him on the map. He’s so freaking good in this; dude is so much more than just a pretty face. Nevertheless and Gosling aside, it’s a really well-written, heavy-hitting, super memorable and special movie that I’ve long been crazy about and have been recommending for ages. So, yeah, check it out.
It’s got a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
