A documentary about how a poor, uneducated young man from a broken home in South Carolina used his many talents to become the hardest working man in show business and forever change music as we know it.
Probably an easier sell if you’re already a fan of James Brown, but even if you’re unfamiliar with one of the greatest musicians/performers/entertainers who ever lived, this is actually a pretty great place to get acquainted. Jam-packed with great interviews of the people who knew Brown best, plus a boat load of archival footage of him doing what he did best. Also does a fantastic job of portraying Brown as the accomplished-yet-flawed and complex man that he was instead of just shying away from the warts and all. Yup, big fan of this one. That soul power is contagious.
It’s got a cool 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
